Are you an international student who would like to start a business in the UK?

Written by UMIP on . Posted in News

If you are and wish to set-up a business in the Manchester area then please read on as the UK Border Agency’s Tier 1 (Graduate Entrepreneur) visa may just be the scheme for you. If you are not within 10 months of graduation and / or do not wish to set-up in Manchester then you may still be able to start a business through the Sirius programme. Further information on this programme can be found at http://www.omnicompete.com/sirius_programme.html. Please note the next deadline for the Sirius Programme is November 30th, 2013

The University of Manchester (The University) is a partner university for the UK Border Agency’s Tier 1 (Graduate Entrepreneur) visa. This allows international graduates from The University of Manchester, who have a viable and innovative business idea, to be supported to develop a business in the UK in conjunction with The University.

The University is able to endorse up to 10 of its own international graduates each year (plus up to 10 MBA graduates) for Tier 1 Graduate Entrepreneur visa sponsorship to develop a business in the UK. The candidate would then apply to UKBA for the visa, using this endorsement.

The visa will be issued for 12 months in the first instance (possibly extendable to 2 years). The University has established its own criteria, (in conjunction with UKBA) regarding how international graduates/business plans will be selected. Detailed guidance and application forms can be found at http://www.careers.manchester.ac.uk/students/international/ukworkafterstudy/gradentrepreneur/

The deadline for submitting applications for this year’s 2013/14 allocation of endorsements is 1st March, 2014. However The University is organising the submission and evaluation of applications into a series of rounds. The deadline for the next round will be 9am, December 9th (Greenwich Mean Time). If you are interested in the scheme then please register your interest at enterprise@manchester.ac.uk making clear the date you graduated and whether you intend to submit an application by December 9th or at a later date.
