The University of Manchester’s Innovation Group, UMIᶟ, incorporating its Innovation Centre, UMIC, and agent for intellectual property commercialisation, UMIP, is pleased to announce that it attained Investors in People (IIP) accreditation in April this year. This builds on the IIP status of both UMIC and UMIP prior to creation of UMIᶟ in August 2011.
IIP specialises in transforming business performance through people by helping companies achieve the results they want by focusing all their work on companies’ business objectives, and acting as a critical friend in order to maintain continuous improvement.
Having carried out the assessment process in accordance with the guidelines provided for assessors by the UK Commission for Employment and Skills, Joanne Hamilton, IIP assessor, commented: “Investors in People UK, is satisfied beyond any doubt that UMIᶟ, incorporating UMIC and UMIP, continues to meet the requirements of the Investors in People standard. We would like to congratulate the organisation on its achievement to date.”
UMIᶟ was evaluated against its business objectives with a special focus of achieving self-funding status by 2015.
Claire McKenzie, UMIᶟ Compliance and HR Manager, commented: "I am delighted that we have continued to meet the high standards necessary to retain our IIP accreditation, particularly following what has been a time of real change for all of us within The Innovation Group. IIP is a continuous improvement process and we will be working hard to ensure we strive not only to continue to meet the standard but in time, to exceed it.”
