2D Intellectual Property (IP) Coordinator

The University of Manchester I3 Ltd (UMI3) is a wholly-owned company of The University of Manchester and its agent for Intellectual Property (IP) management and commercialisation. UMIP is the division of UMI3 whose role is to commercialise intellectual property (IP), know-how and technology developed at the University. Since its inception in 2004, UMI3 has created over 45 spin-out companies, managed over £450m of third party investment into the University’s spin-outs and brokered over 11,000 licences and assignments. UMI3 is widely recognised as being amongst the leading university technology transfer organisations in the UK.
A vacancy has arisen for an Intellectual Property Coordinator to join our successful IP commercialisation division. You will be responsible for providing day-to-day patent management support for the portfolio of patents and trademarks primarily associated with the 2D material and graphene patent portfolio. The job may encompass support for other technology areas too, as required, for high value projects in the IP Development and Partnering Team.
Reporting to the Head of IP Services, you will work with minimal day-to-day supervision and be expected to demonstrate highly-developed organisational skills and strong initiative. Meticulous attention to detail is essential for this role together with a commitment to continuous quality improvement. IT literate, you will have experience of managing databases and generating reports. You will be a team player and will demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
The post-holder will be educated to degree level or equivalent, preferably in a physical sciences/engineering subject area with a strong interest in technology and innovation. Experience in patent administration, patent database searching or IP management through working in a patent law firm or a university or university technology transfer office is highly desirable.
