The University of Manchester I3 Ltd (UMI3) is a wholly-owned company of The University of Manchester and its agent for Intellectual Property (IP) management and commercialisation. UMIP is the division of UMI3 whose role is to commercialise intellectual property (IP), know-how and technology developed at the University. Since its inception in 2004, UMI3 has created over 45 spin-out companies, managed over £450m of third party investment into the University’s spin-outs and brokered over 11,000 licences and assignments. UMI3 is widely recognised as being amongst the leading university technology transfer organisations in the UK.

A vacancy has arisen for a Business Development Analyst to join our successful IP commercialisation division. You will be responsible for supporting new spin out formation, IP licensing and post-deal revenue forecasting, by the provision of financial modelling and commercial analytics. The role will encompass deal benchmarking, market research and the preparation of business cases, working closely with the Head of Commercial Transactions and the IP Development and Partnering Team. You will also engage with Investors and Corporates on a project basis, working collaboratively with the Corporate and Investor Relations Manager.

Reporting to the Head of Commercial Transactions, you will be capable of independent work and demonstrate highly-developed commercial awareness with excellent analytical and valuation skills. IT literate and Excel expert, you will have experience of financial modelling and business case development, preferably gained in a commercial environment. You will be a team player and will demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

The post-holder will be educated to degree level or equivalent, in a business, finance or scientific discipline, preferably with a PhD or postgraduate business qualification and with a strong interest in technology and IP commercialisation.
