UMI3 IS THE UNIVERSITY OF MANCHESTER’S SUBSIDIARY RESPONSIBLE FOR IDENTIFYING AND LEADING THE COMMERCIALISATION OF ITS INNOVATIONS AND INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
We are searching for an ambitious commercial leader to join the UMI3 senior leadership team.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Head of Business Development, Marketing & Investment will be charged with developing, executing and leading an ambitious commercial strategy. This will significantly increase royalty income and investment in University spin-out businesses.
They will have overall responsibility for the preparation, negotiation and closure of high-value licensing and investment deals and be responsible for the delivery of agreed royalty and investment targets. They will lead a team of specialist business development professionals that will engage with potential licensors and investors from across the world.
A key element of the role will be leading a communications team that will develop high-impact marketing communication tools to build global awareness of the organisation’s capabilities and licensing and investment opportunities. On joining UMI3, they will also be responsible for supporting the rebrand of the organisation.
An understanding and ability to engage with sources of external investment is vital. They will have built, lead and motivated high-performing, target-driven teams and will demonstrate an ability to develop both strategic and tactical commercial plans. They will have exceptional interpersonal and selling skills and must have the gravitas to be credible with senior academics, the University’s leadership team and Board-level industry contacts.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record as a results-driven senior commercial leader and is likely to be currently working in industry. Extensive, demonstrable experience running a sales organisation, digital marketing campaigns, brand launches and market research for scientifically or technically complex products is essential.
