Head of Operations
UMI3 IS THE UNIVERSITY OF MANCHESTER’S SUBSIDIARY RESPONSIBLE FOR IDENTIFYING AND LEADING THE COMMERCIALISATION OF ITS INNOVATIONS AND INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
We are searching for an ambitious Head of Operations to join the UMI3 senior leadership team. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Head of Operations will lead a team of Project Directors and Managers to pro-actively identify, evaluate and build IP commercialisation opportunities that have the potential to create significant value and generate major social and economic impact.
The Head of Operations will have overall responsibility for the identification, prioritisation and work-up of business cases for new spin-out and licensing projects, ensuring that UMI3 and the University meet their ambitious strategic objectives for IP commercialisation.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record as a results-driven senior leader and is likely to be currently working in industry. Extensive commercial, operational experience is essential, along with an ability to work in a complex technical environment, driven by innovation.
The ability to develop compelling business plans and commercial arguments is a vital part of this role. They will demonstrate outstanding leadership and interpersonal skills and be able to build strong networks and relationships. They must also have the gravitas to be credible with senior academics, the University’s leadership team and Board level industry contacts. Being able to evidence experience in the identification, development, management and commercial exploitation of intellectual property is critical. They will have built, lead and motivated high performing teams, actively recognising and developing internal talent.
